Safety Management System Implementation and Assessment

This four-day course comprehensively introduces participants to the concept of a safety management system (SMS) and elaborates on how to implement effective SMS correctly in aviation organisations.

Developing and implementing an effective SMS is one of the challenges in modern aviation organisations. To prepare well for this challenge, the course provides the participants with the tools, knowledge, and methodology to successfully implement a SMS in their organisations in response to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annex 19, ICAO Doc 9859, European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA), and Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (CAD) Management System requirements defined in respective laws of Europe and Hong Kong.

Using case-based studies, the course covers the service providers’ safety management systems, hazard identification and risk management principles, safety assurance, safety performance indicators and safety promotion, enabling the participants to apply the theories practically. The course also provides guidance on establishing, implementing, and enhancing an SMS and monitoring its safety performance. It explains the procedures for conducting periodic audits and assessing the SMS.
